DIY Basket

This is a fairly easy craft that can be cheap depending on where you get your rope. Even if your rope costs $25 it will still be a lot cheaper than similar baskets at Anthropologie and other retailers. I got my rope at Fred Meyer but thinking back I wish I had checked out other options like maybe Home Depot for more options and cheaper prices. I got the largest sized rope I could and I needed two of them. I forgot to take note of how long my rope was (sorry!)

What you need:
plastic laundry basket
rope (the larger the rope the less you need)
hot glue
scissors
lighter
paint
water
sponge brush

I got a white plastic laundry basket from Dollar Tree. To make the basket I used a hot glue gun to attach the rope all around the basket. After I had attached all the rope I used paint to color it. I didn't want it to look too plastic or paint-like so I watered my paint down with water and used a sponge brush to squeeze and brush it on until the entire basket was covered. One of the cool parts of doing it this way was how the color was a little uneven which gave it a more weathered authentic look. I let mine dry for about 3-4 days.

If your rope is too long you can use a pair of sharp scissors to cut it off and a lighter to stop the edges from fraying (on some rope types.)
